Snowmobile

This band should probably just write soundtracks to movies. These instrumental songs are down tempo and melodic for the most part, but are afraid to kick it in to high gear every once in awhile with a euro pop esque breakdown. And what do you know?! They are from Europe, the UK to be exact. Their album "Strangers" can be downloaded for free here, if you want to listen to music that's just absolutely beautiful.

No tour dates or anything for this band, but check out their myspace:

Also, while linking this, I just found out that 1 guy wrote and recorded all of this. Color me impressed.

Like So

Like So is just one of what seems like a thousand bands from Seth Engel - Hawkward, Like So, Cage Match, Options - I'm sure the list goes on. Each band seems to have a distinct "American Football" vibe to them - weird time signatures, sweet melodies and enough guitar tapping to keep it interesting. Like So hails from Chicago (home of many Not Quite Indie Rock favorites) and released "...Goes to the Supermarket and Never Returns" in the latter part of 2009. The album contains all of the elements described above and clever song titles - "Peter's Northward Adventure" may or may not be a direct reference to a certain pornstar.

The band doesn't seem to be playing any shows currently, but the CD can be downloaded for free here and you can sample it's wares below.

You can check out the current bands of this band at:

http://www.myspace.com/optionstheband - Playing their first full band Chicago show at Underground Lounge on March 18.

Mission Statement

There is no real definition of what this blog is, I'm not too keen on doing reviews because I tend to only listen to what I like. Instead, this blog will be about making people aware of bands in this section of music for those of us who grew out of pop punk/emo and didn't grow up enough to think that the Garden State soundtrack was then pinnacle of music.

Hopefully, I will be posting tour dates, news and new music from bands I already like, and hopefully bands I will learn about.
